Montreal, Canada
Montreal Casino & Hotel
Expo 67 gave Montreal two striking pavilions on Île Notre-Dame. The French and Québec buildings were later joined and converted into the casino complex that occupies the site today, inside Parc Jean-Drapeau.
Setting counts for as much as architecture. Downtown lies just across the river, and the island's park paths and gardens start at the door. Restaurants, bars and a performance venue take up much of the interior. Gaming occupies its own share of the floor space; dining and shows claim the rest.
Niagara Falls, Canada
Fallsview Casino Resort
Few hotel windows face anything like the Horseshoe Falls. Fallsview's tower rises above the Niagara escarpment, and a large share of its rooms look down on the falls and the gorge.
Opened in 2004, the resort mostly works as a base for sightseeing. Evenings fill up with a spa, a long list of restaurants and the Avalon Ballroom Theatre. A casino floor occupies part of the complex, inside a building far larger than that one room.
Richmond, Canada
River Rock Casino Resort
Richmond borders Vancouver to the south, and River Rock holds a stretch of the Fraser River there, a few minutes from Vancouver International Airport. A Canada Line station is close by. Downtown is a short train ride away.
Rooms and suites form the hotel side, with an indoor pool and a marina on the river itself. A theatre books concerts and comedy. Gaming fills one wing; plenty of guests simply use the place as a well-connected airport hotel.
Rama, Canada
Casino Rama Resort
North of Toronto the map turns to lakes. Casino Rama Resort stands on the land of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation, near Orillia and Lake Couchiching, roughly ninety minutes' drive from the city.
A hotel tower anchors the resort, with a spa and several restaurants close at hand. Its entertainment centre brings touring acts in through the year. The gaming floor sits inside the complex too, while the lakes and cottage country outside give a reason to stay longer than a night.
